Having homed two year old Harry from Avon Cat Rescue last year we discovered that he has been paying our neighbour’s cats social visits for quite some time. This gave us the perfect excuse to home another one of your beautiful moggies. After some helpful advice from the Rescue team, a little ball of fluff, in the form of four month old Monty was the perfect choice
Harry took some convincing as Monty was haring around the house, climbing curtains and leaping on him in excitement. Monty wasn't at all scared of Harry who was about 4 times the size of him, but big old Harry found the little kitten altogether too much! We kept introducing them for short sessions, reassuring Harry and giving him treats, and initially putting Monty in his carry case or feeding him to stop him startling Harry.
After a few weeks Harry began to tolerate Monty who would leap on the big cat’s back, pin him down and give his ears a good clean which was very sweet – in fact I think it is what won Harry over. Now, two months on, the cats are best friends. They greet each other with chirrups of pleasure, roll and gambol about and groom each other regularly, often at the same time.
Thank you for all you have done for the cats and us. We were so happy to have our distinguished gentleman Harry, but cuddly Monty compliments him perfectly. I know it sounds sentimental, but I really do feel our family is complete. If anyone is considering getting a companion for their cat I would strongly recommend it. You may have a few weeks where it looks like they will never get on, but Monty has made Harry fitter and happier than ever, and us for that matter too. Thanks
Amelia, the torti, is shy and still quite nervous although later in the evening when it is calm and quiet she will curl up on my lap.
Dylan, on the other hand, is quite the opposite. He is very lively and nosey. He adores my daughter whom he follows around.
Thank you, the cats are wonderful.
It is taking some time for Amy and Oscar to settle in, they are both a bit jumpy, especially if someone new comes into the house. What has been a surprise is that Amy will find any little hole to get out of the garden and patrol the surrounding area at quite regular intervals, and yet Oscar appears much happier to stay within the boundaries of the garden and just potter around.
Amy is a real sun worshipper and loves nothing better than to sit in one of my Acer pots, as she gets a nice place to sleep and with the added bonus of built in shade. She will quite happily sit there all afternoon enjoying herself. Oscar on the other hand is happy to find a shrub to sit under and watch the world go by, but nobody can see him
Amy loves to sit on laps in the evening, demanding fuss and strokes, until she eventually curls up and goes to sleep. Oscar prefers to find his own space, usually on the bed in the spare room and dreams away the evening, or sitting on the bedroom windowsill, watching over his domain. He is very playful in the mornings and chases or carries around the kitchen a sponge ball that he loves. He knows I think he is very entertaining, and loves it. He is also used to using a scratching post, and uses it most days.
They both enjoy watching the Guinea Pigs, but thankfully not over interested to be a worry, and the Guinea Pigs are used to having a cat about
Finding out which is their prefered food is trial and error, Oscar tends to stick to biscuits which is good as the vet says his teeth are not very good. Amy sticks to wet food.
They appear to be happy to live with us, and on the whole have settled in well. We hope that they will both enjoy many years to come with us.
Frank has settled in really well with us.
At first he was a bit nervous in his new surroundings but eventually found his feet, especially in the conservatory. He spends most of his time in there or on the sofa in the lounge. Frank barely goes outside for long and only really enjoys the back garden. He seems to like to be near home.
We recently bought Frank a black collar and name tag which suit him to a T. We are proud to have a fun loving and affectionate friend in our home.
